7 Brain Activities That Will Improve Your Memory

7 Brain Activities That Will Improve Your Memory
________________________________________

1. Learn a New Language!

Learning a new language can benefit you on many levels. Not only does it add to your personal skill set, but it’s also an outstanding brain exercise that can prevent, delay or even reverse memory loss. Language-learning activities will help you remember, recognize and understand words, which will take your cognitive function to a whole new level. Language learning is a great weapon against memory loss that improves vocabulary and grammar, as well as the elements of mental and verbal fluency.

2. Puzzles and Word Games Are Also Great

Another brain exercise that will enrich your general knowledge and help prevent memory loss is playing word games and solving crosswords or other puzzles. It can be Sudoku or a Scrabble game – whatever appeals to you, as long as it stimulates your mind with new words and makes you associate them with objects or actions. It is now known that playing different word games and doing crossword puzzles on a daily basis can significantly reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

3. Never Underestimate the Power of Music!

Music, and music therapy (commonly referred to as ‘melotherapy’) provides great brain exercise as well, since it not only improves your mental focus but also supports healthy long-term cognitive functioning. While it is claimed that listening to classical music can help babies and young children boost their brainpower and improve verbal fluency skills, music is also a great ‘treatment’ for memory loss. Simply listen to your favorite kind of music on a daily basis, and try to remember the melody or lyrics (and sing or hum along), and you will find it both useful and entertaining!

4. Don’t Be Ashamed to Talk to Yourself

Studies have revealed that people who talk to themselves actually have a lower risk of developing dementia later in life. In other words, talking to yourself and even telling yourself stories is an outstanding way to delay memory loss and to stay focused on important details. Moreover, this is also a great ‘emotional exercise.’ Storytelling has been used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s for a long time, and it has turned out to useful in improving memory function by helping you retain more information.

5. Read Different Books and Try to Remember the Plots

Who doesn’t like to read a good book every once in a while? They say that a man who does not read only lives one life, but one who reads can live a thousand lives. This is why one of the greatest brain exercises you can do to prevent memory loss is to read as much as you can, and as often as you can. From books and essays to newspaper or magazine articles, you should read anything that draws your attention. You can do it in your spare time at home, or while riding the train or waiting in a line. Another great tip is trying to remember the plot of the books you read years ago – it definitely helps strengthen the memory!

6. Try Brain-Building Exercises

There are numerous games and exercises that are specifically designed for boosting your brain. Also, hand-eye coordination is particularly important for stimulating your mind and preventing memory loss. You do not need to exhaust yourself with demanding brain exercises; you can rely on easy or moderate exercises that activate the neurons and the synapses, thus sending immediate messages to the nervous system and helping prevent cognitive deficits.

7. Mnemonic Devices Also Come in Handy!

Last, but not least, a mnemonic device is a ‘tool’ that helps you remember things easier. For instance, you can associate a visual image with a name or a word to help you remember a person, or you can associate an acronym with a bigger word. On the other hand, alliterations, rhymes and jokes are three other great ways to remember names, facts, figures and other essential information.

Widow By Daud Kamal, Theme of the poem

     Every evening
She would go to the river-
wet pebbles and bird shadows-
But the boat
Never come
Mist like a shroud
And the smoke of cow during
Over which
She cooks for her children-
The river, the river
The youngest asks:
How much bigger than a scorpion
Is death? You should be out
With the other- she scolds-
Catching fish
Mouth stained
By an old dream- glass bangles
And the sound of a village festival
In her eyes, In her blood-
The river, the river

Strange Fits Of Passion by Willam Wordsworth. Theme of the poem

   Strange  fits of passion have i known:
   And i will dare to tell,
   But in the  lovers ear alone,
   What once to me befell.

   When she i loved looked every day,
    Fresh as a rose in june,
    I to her cottege bent my way,
   Beneath an evening-moon.

   Upon the moon i fixed my eye,
    All over the wide lea;
   With quicking pace my horse drew high
   Those paths so dear to me.
   And now we reached the orchard-plot;
  And, as we climbed the hill,
  The sinking moon to lucky`s cot
   Come near, And nearer still.

   In one of those sweet  dreams i slept,e
   Kind Natures gentlest boon!
   and all the while my eyes i kept
   On the descending moon.

   My house moved on; hoof after hoof
   He raised, and never stopped;
   when down behind the cottage roof,
   At once, the bright moon dropped.
   What fond and wayward thoughts will slide
   Into a lovers head!
   ''O mercy!'' to my self I cried,
   ''If Lucy should be dead!''

                            Theme of the poem

     In this poem the poet tells us about the strong feelings for his beloved. In the poem
the speaker describes a night time ride to his beloved lacys cottage. The speaker begins by saying
that he has experienced strange fits for passion and will relate them only to a person who himself
is a lover. lacy the girl the poet adored, was fresh as a rose in june . One night he journeyed to her cottage under the moon. He says that he would like to share his experience of love only with those who themselves were once in love. The poet argues that he would not tell these things to a man who him self was not in love
because such a person will not be able to understand his feelings. The poet tells us that his beloved was
stunning. He says that when he was in love with her she was charming and fresh like a rose in the month of june. She lived a bit far away so the poet went to her hut on the horse back under the evening moon.
He says that when he was on the way to meet her, he kept looking at the moon as he was worried that he would not be able to travel further if the moon sank. His horse was galloping on the grass land. at each
step he was getting closer to the horse of his beloved. After some time the poet and his horse reached a plot where some fruit trees grew. As the poet and his horse climbed the hill he looked at the moon which
was getting closer to lacys cottage. The moon was about to set. on the way his horse did not stop for a moment . when he and his horse were just near the roof of his beloveds hut the moon was about to sink. He says that sometimes naughty and strange feeling churn up in a lovers heart . he starts to imagine strange things which he might be far-fetched and unreal. such types of feeling stormed into the poets mind
He said to himself that lacy might be dead which was not true. But poet says that a lovers mind can imagine anything.

Theme Of the Poem Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

  It was many and many a year ago,
     in a kingdom by the sea,
  That a maiden there lived whom you may know,
     by the name of Annabel lee;
  And this maiden she lived with no other thought
     Then to love and be loved by me.

  I was a child and she was a child,
     in this kingdom by the sea:
  But we loved with a love that was more than love--
     i and my Annabel lee;
  With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
      Coveted her and me.
  And this was the reason that, long ago,
      In this kingdom by the sea,
  A wind blew out of a  cloud, chilling
      My beautiful Annabel lee;
  So that her highborn kinsman came
  And bore her away from me,

 To shut her up in a sepulchre
      In this kingdom by the sea
  The angels , not half so happy in heaven,
     Went envying her and me--
 Yes!--that was the reason (as all men know,,
      in this kingdom by the sea)

  That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
      Chilling and killing my Annabel lee,
  But our love it was stronger by far than the love
      Of those who were older than we--
   Of many far wiser than we--

 And neither the angels in heaven above,
      Nor the demons down under the sea,
  Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
      Of the beautiful Annabel lee:
 For the moon never beams, with out bringing me dreams
      Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

  And the stars never rise, but i feel the bright eyes
     Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
  And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
   Of my darling--my darling--my life and my bride,
     In her sepulchre there by the sea,
     In her tomb by the sounding sea.

                THEME OF THE POEM
Theme of the poem is the death of a beautiful woman. Death is one of his favourite subjects of Allan Poe.
In 1836 Allan Edgar Poe married 13 year old cousin Virginia Clement. She busted a blood vessel in 1842,
And remained a virtual invalid until her death from tuberculosis five years later. After the death of his wife.
Poe began to lose his struggle with drinking and drug. He addressed the famous poem Annabel Lee to his
wife. This poem records his real grief and sadness over the death of his better half. She died young and for Poe it was awfully hard to cope with grief. He has fictionalised the real story by placing the whole thing in far off past and for the setting he used the angry, tumultuous sea. He has given the topic like death a romantic
colour. The poet (the lover) and Annabel Lee (his wife ) lived in an imaginary kingdom by the sea, They
were in love since their childhood. They loved each other with such passion that even the angles in the sky.
were envious of their love. They were living happily but unfortunately one night a cold storm started to blow
and Annabel Lee got chill and later on she died. Afterwards her rich and aristocratic came and took her dead body away. They gave her burial in a watery grave. Their love was purer and stronger than the love of
all those lovers who were older or wiser then them. Though his beloved is dead but he is still in love with her.
Nothing can separate the poets soul from the soul of his beloved, neither the angles of the sky nor the demons who live underground. The poet still loves his sweetheart and angles in the sky envy them for the
pure love love they had for each other. The poet has lost his sweetheart but he keeps thinking about her.
When the cold blue moon shines in the sky, its light bring him thoughts of his dead darling. When the stars reminds him of his dead love. The poet cant get rid of her thoughts. At night he feels as if he spent the entire night with his beloved in her grave under the sea.
